(More customer reviews)We've used table top heaters for heat on the patio during the winter months before.Most table top heaters on the market today do not have sufficient BTU to create enough heat and are almost the same price as the dual burner Mr. Heater.The Mr. Heater heats up the desired area perfectly!Typically on high it is too hot.It heats up quickly even in a breeze.The auto ignite is a must.After about 45 days of almost daily use, we are experiencing symptoms of requiring a new thermal couple.I didn't expect that this quick but it is a fairly easy fix.

All Weather Blanket Review

(More customer reviews)OK, I have reviewed the HeatSheet blanket and Bivvie before, it's a great product for survival where space and weight are significant considerations- the two person size or the bivvie weigh about 3oz, and are about the size of a bar of soap.

At the far end of the scale would be a good high quality military surplus wool blanket- 6+ pounds. Good for a roomy trunk, your SUV, cabin or in the home.

Here, in the middle is the "Space' or "All Weather" blanket. A super tough laminate of fiber scrim and aluminized plastic, it weighs 12oz, and is about the size of a trade paperback book. There are several advantages of the "space blanket" (note the name is also used for the super-thin one-use mylar blankets, don't get them confused):
1.Re-usable over and over, these will take a beating.
2.More uses- they can be used as a tarp, picnic blanket, or on the floor of your tent to protect the tent bottom and reflect heat back. This is my primary use, I find that one of these- PLUS a pad- works about twice as well as a pad only.
3.They have grommets so are easier to use.
4. In the desert, they make a good sun protection tarp.

So, if one can afford the weight and room, I'd suggest one of these for survival purposes on a hiking trip (one of these plus a HeatSheet bivvie would be even better).Yes, another 12 oz is a little much, but with one of these for two hikers, it's not so bad.

On the other end of the scale, if you don't want a big heavy wool blanket cluttering up your trunk- or want another layer in "cold country" then this is also a good choice. It's also good for the office.

Get the orange/silver version, as it works for signaling too.

(More customer reviews)I've played with a couple of different brands of space blankets and these blankets are of fine quality.They suffer the usual short comings of this material (tears spread easily) but on the grand scale of space blanket brands, you are getting one of the better quality blankets.For example, one of the cheaper brands I have tried experienced flaking of the mylar coating after (admittedly) rough handling.The brand being reviewed here did not suffer from this flaking.Definitely recommended.

Coleman MicroPacker Compact Battery Lantern Review

(More customer reviews)This is a rugged little lantern. I have to say that for $10, I was not expecting something of this quality. This is a solid well constructed unit that will not disintegrate if it gets knocked on the floor.

Other reviewers have stated this provides light for weeks. Not so... While technically it may output light on 3 AA batteries for 125 hours, it isn't at usable levels.

I bought two of these, and as soon as I received them, I took one of them and inserted the batteries that were included with it, turned it on and left it. I wanted to see if it would live up to other reviewers claims on battery life.

I realize that battery life would be extended with intermittent usage rather than continuous use, but if you are planning to use this for emergencies, you may need it running continuously for extended periods.

Anyway, the first 24 hours were the brightest. It easily illuminated my 10 X 12 study well enough to distinguish objects around the room, and I had no problem reading by it. After 48 hours, it did get somewhat dimmer and to read by it, I had to hold the book right next to the light. At approx 72 hours the light was feeble and I had difficulty reading a book with the light right next to the book. The light output was less than a standard night light I have in my bathroom.

At this point, I opened up my second lantern that I had purchased, inserted the included batteries and set it side by side with the lantern that had been running continuously for 3 days. The lantern with the fresh batteries was far far brighter, so at this point I ended the experiment as I felt that the light output from the lantern that had been running for 3 days really wasn't useful.

The last thing I did was to insert 3 fresh energizer batteries in the lantern that had been running for 3 days and set it side by side with the lantern with the fresh batteries that were included with it. The lantern with the energizer batteries was noticeably brighter.

So, buy the best batteries you can and you may well get the 125 hours of light this is purported to produce.

All in all, this is a very good value for the price.

(More customer reviews)I just bought this lantern for camping and it works great. I would highly recommend it. It takes a lot of batteries but it lasts a long time and is very bright. The smaller version takes less batteries but works about the same. I have now added this lantern to my hurricane supplies, as it will come in handy if I lose power this season.

(More customer reviews)I was very impressed with this.I was on a survival course weekend, and did not have a regular sleeping bag.This item is very light weight and kept me so warm that I ended up sleeping on top of it for one of the nights.

It reflects a lot of body heat.Even if you are not going to use this as a sleeping bag (as I did).If you are in a tent and unfold it to use as a ground mat, you will be amazed what a difference it makes to the temperature.Keep one of these in your car / backpack. Takes up a lot less space than a blanket and does offer some water resistance if you need to use it as a shelter in the rain.
