Slumberjack Big XL Cot Review

Slumberjack Big XL Cot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Slumberjack arrived on my door tonight and I tried to set it up in my tiny living room and ended up having to move furniture! The size is fantastic, it has plenty of room to sleep and flop around without rolling over the support bars. When laying on it the size feels more like a twin bed than a camp cot.

Pay attention to the fact that it is TALL. The description clearly states the height, but at 5'5" my feet don't touch the ground when sitting on the cot so getting out of it will be a comical event. If you are tall this shouldn't be a problem, but if you're in the Hobbit height category (like me) take heed.

The cot is heavy and while it comes with a sturdy case with shoulder strap it isn't the option for long treks into the woods. It also requires some muscle to get the cot set up.The concept is simple, unfold it and feed the two end bars through the top and bottom of the cot, but actually attaching the end bars is hard.I also think the plastic hooks will not last years as long as the rest of the cot.Once the cot is put together it is sturdy and will provide an excellent sleeping experience, but it isn't designed to be set up and taken down night after night.

The quality of the cot is good and the built-in shelf under the cot will be handy for keeping things dry, tucking a book in, or (for me) keeping a ladder close.

Coleman MicroPacker Compact Battery Lantern Review

Coleman MicroPacker Compact Battery Lantern
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a rugged little lantern. I have to say that for $10, I was not expecting something of this quality. This is a solid well constructed unit that will not disintegrate if it gets knocked on the floor.

Other reviewers have stated this provides light for weeks. Not so... While technically it may output light on 3 AA batteries for 125 hours, it isn't at usable levels.

I bought two of these, and as soon as I received them, I took one of them and inserted the batteries that were included with it, turned it on and left it. I wanted to see if it would live up to other reviewers claims on battery life.

I realize that battery life would be extended with intermittent usage rather than continuous use, but if you are planning to use this for emergencies, you may need it running continuously for extended periods.

Anyway, the first 24 hours were the brightest. It easily illuminated my 10 X 12 study well enough to distinguish objects around the room, and I had no problem reading by it. After 48 hours, it did get somewhat dimmer and to read by it, I had to hold the book right next to the light. At approx 72 hours the light was feeble and I had difficulty reading a book with the light right next to the book. The light output was less than a standard night light I have in my bathroom.

At this point, I opened up my second lantern that I had purchased, inserted the included batteries and set it side by side with the lantern that had been running continuously for 3 days. The lantern with the fresh batteries was far far brighter, so at this point I ended the experiment as I felt that the light output from the lantern that had been running for 3 days really wasn't useful.

The last thing I did was to insert 3 fresh energizer batteries in the lantern that had been running for 3 days and set it side by side with the lantern with the fresh batteries that were included with it. The lantern with the energizer batteries was noticeably brighter.

So, buy the best batteries you can and you may well get the 125 hours of light this is purported to produce.

All in all, this is a very good value for the price.

Kamp-Rite Tent Cot Original Size Rainfly (Green) Review

Kamp-Rite Tent Cot Original Size Rainfly
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased the tent cot and decided that it would be best to have the rain fly to go along with it. The rainfly fits snuggly with elastic corners. Also, there are straps that attach to the ends of the cot with clips. The sides tie down in four places to prevent it from flying around when you don't have it fully zipped up. My only gripe and the reason it doesn't get five stars is that I think it should have just come with the tent cot in the first place rather than having to order it separately.

Kamp-Rite Double Tent Cot Review

Kamp-Rite Double Tent Cot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I will give you a bit of info on me so that others who were in my boat will be able to better understand.Im a large guy @ 6'5" and 330lbs.So for those of you wondering how it will hold up to us big guys, it did well.I never felt like it was under too much strain and was also long enough.I bought this tentcot with intentions of using it on monthly Boy Scout campouts. We generally dont hike in to our sleeping quarters otherwise you might be leaving this at home unless you have a pack mule to carry it for you. That was one of the biggest issues, but I knew this before getting it, so it was an expected problem.I have a truck, so it fits in the bed of it easily, if you have a small car that the rear seat doesnt fold down to slide it through you will be strapping this thing to the roof, it is large(see product for dimensions).I did buy an air mattress to fit inside, and fits almost perfectly to the inside dimensions, only problem with that for us longer people, with the approx. 8" of height added from the mattress and with the gradual taper from the ends of the tent, you lose about 6" of length(roughly). In otherwords your head and feet will be touching the ends at full extension if you are 6'5" or taller.I dont see it as a problem for me because I dont sleep at full extension, although I did not use this during my campout yet to see how it worked.I took the tentcot on its first excursion to Woodbadge(Scout Leadership Training), and it just happened to be in the low 20's so it got a good test, as well as a little bit of rain, but it held up well, and was very comfortable.Something else I need to mention is there is a bar that runs through the middle of the bed, its as if there were 2 cots stacked side by side, so if you were thinking of getting the double so that you could spraul out, you will definitely need the air mattress.I like this bar, because im a side sleeper and dont roll around much when sleeping so it was very comfy.I used the other side to set up all of my camping gear(backpack, clothes, lantern etc...).I also bought the underneath gear storage bag, i thought i would use this for my shoes and things that might be dirty or smell, to keep the tent clean, but also keeping the stuff from getting soaked in the rain if left outside. Its also very easy to setup.I do recommend practice at home, but after one try at home, I saw how easy it was, and you will always be the 1st one finished setting up your tent!As I use it more, I may notice more good or bad things, but for now I am very pleased with my product. And everyone that sees it will want one!

Product Description:
If you've done a fair amount of camping, you know that sleeping on a cot inside a roomy tent is far more comfortable than sleeping on the ground. Now you can combine both luxuries with the double-size Kamp-Rite tent cot, a fully framed and enclosed cot with nylon sides and tie-up no-see-um mesh doors and windows--just like a personal tent. The legs of the cot are suspended a full 11 inches off the ground, keeping you away from moisture, snakes, and rodents, so you needn't worry about waking up with a mouse inside your sleeping bag. More significantly, the cot is roomy and comfortable, with plenty of space for two people to stretch out and sleep in style. (The double version is longer than a queen bed and almost as wide, with plenty of headroom thanks to the tent's dome styling.) Simply situate the tent cot on any piece of level ground, toss in your favorite sleeping bag or blanket, and you're ready for a great night of sleep.
The tent cot's frame is made of lightweight yet durable aluminum, with anti-vibration aluminum nuts and bolts that won't loosen over time or rust. The "tent" portion of the product features durable 420-denier nylon fabric with no-see-um doors and windows that open on all four sides. When the outer nylon doors are zipped open and the interior no-see-um mesh doors are zipped closed, the tent cot is 100-percent insect-proof yet still encourages 360-degree airflow--a must for warmer climates. The durable one-piece Cordura nylon-fabric sleeping surface, meanwhile, is firm and level, helping you sleep soundly throughout the night. And should you encounter severe stormy weather, simply set up the "total encapsulation" rain fly.
Easy to set up and transport thanks to the heavy-duty carrying bag, the double-size tent cot measures 84 by 40 by 53 inches (W x H x D) when set up and 53 by 7 by 31 inches when folded. The cot also comes in alternate original and oversized one-person sizes and is backed by a one-year warranty against defects.
