(More customer reviews)For side sleepers like me, the Bi-Pod Bivy is way too tight in both the hip and shoulder areas. Also, I use the Therma-Rest NeoAir mattress which when fully inflated takes-up three inches in height.

I have reordered and have received the heavier but far more spacious Tri-Pod Bivy. Its size is just right for me.

The quality of both models is excellent.

I have two complaints with both models. First, the zip-up opening is much too small. The opening should have at least one more foot to facilitate entry into the bivy. Second, I don't understand why the outer seams don't come pre-sealed from the factory. Instead you are sent a tube of sealer and a syringe and must seal it yourself.

(More customer reviews)I have used Polar Pure for a number of years, sometimes under difficult conditions.It's much better than any other chemical treatment I have found.I don't recommend drinking stagnant water from a swamp, but if you treat it following the manufacturer's instructions, you can do it and won't get a disease or parasite.

One bottle of this product will treat a LOT of water...at least in the thousand liter range.Most products are sold as little tablets and only treat about 50 liters.This is hands-down a better product.

Like all chemical treatments, it only kills living organisms.If the water is toxic, you are still out of luck.

Great product.I swear by it.

Lawson Hammock Blue Ridge Camping Hammock Review

(More customer reviews)I went camping for the first time with this hammock on a lake in the Cascades outside of Seattle in early in June.It rained all night the second night and I stayed dry, while my friends on the ground all got a bit wet due to problems with inadequate flys, etc.It was a noisy night with the rain hitting the hammock fly, but again very dry.I had some gear under the hammock that also stayed fairly well protected from the rain.

I have two gripes about the hammock.Both result from the fact that it is designed to allow for the fly and therefore to function like a tent.This all-in-one design requires the use of stretch bars at both ends of the hammock and these bars create a flatter surface than that of a traditional hammock.That flatter surface creates a couple of problems.It is a harder surface to sleep on.You need a pad for comfort and warmth even though you are not on the ground.And worst of all, the whole thing is vulnerable to flipping over if you move outside the center of gravity inside of the hammock when you turn over in the night.I found myself waking up needing to roll over and having to hang on to the side of the tent/hammock tightly as I gingerly repositioned myself.

Also, because is has a flatter surface, you can't lie at an angle or somewhat perpendicular to the line of the hammock to straighten out, and as a result your feet and head are always above the center of your body.Not a big deal, but does make for stiff knees in the morning (I am 58 years old). You need to attach another sleeping bag under the hammock to keep warm on chillier nights.This makes for more gear to haul around with you [1-2 pad(s), 2 sleeping bags, one for the under side of hammock, and one for inside, and the hammock itself].I use a kayak or a canoe and do not backpack, so the extra weight is manageable, which would also be true for car camping.

My hammock was ordered in green butit arrived in camouflage material. The natural pattern is actually very pretty and blends in with the surroundings well.No complaints, unless you want your tent to be brightly coloredfor visibility in case of an emergency.

Overall, this hammock is affordable and much more comfortable than sleeping on the ground with a pad, or sleeping on a cot with a pad; neither of which work for me any more.So I am definitely going with this contraption over those two other options in the foreseeable future!

Pros:
Since you are off the ground you never have to worry about level terrain or water drainage.
Best sleep I have ever experienced in the wilderness. If you sleep on the diagonal you can lay flat. I am also a side sleeper and it felt comfortable to lay sideways.
You can unhook one of the outside lines and sit/lay on the hammock like a lounge chair. Perfect if you are preparing a meal on your camp stove.
The entrance is ingenious and stays shut even if you move around alot.
The netting does its job and is also convenient since it gives you a 360 view around you. Just in case you need to look around for whats rustling around in the bushes.

Ultralight. A few ounces over 2 lbs. Packs smaller than any tent I have used. Especially with the additions of snakeskins. The hammock and be setup in under a minute and taken down within 30 seconds after getting use to it.Cons:The straps provided (tree huggers) tend to run a little small, making it hard to wrap them firmly around the tree. It can easily be remedied with a quick trip to the hardware store and purchasing some longer cargo straps for a few bucks.

The instructions on how to tie the hammock up could be a little clearer. I figured it out after a couple of tries but I felt that it wasnt the most efficient way to secure the hammock.One simple solution is attaching a carabiner through the tree huggers and using a prussik knot to fasten it tight.

If there are no trees in site you can always use hiking sticks in a vain attempt to hang. However the hammock doubles as a decent bivy.Amazing product. Extremely well built. I will never sleep on the ground again.

(More customer reviews)I received this today, and it works great. I would suggest using the back (non-serrated) edge of the steel to shave the magnesium and the serrated edge for striking the flint. The magnesium block and flint both have some kind of coating, so the first time you use it it'll take a few extra tries. I've seen these selling for double or triple the price and people were happy to pay it, so this is an excellent deal!
