Sierra Designs Convert 3 Tent Review

Sierra Designs Convert 3 Tent

We bought this tent for occasional snow trips and for car camping, the latter as it is roomy enough for a queen size air mattress. The first night out in Olympic National Park we were caught in a deluge--rain falling like walruses and whales, not cats and dogs.We successfully set up the tent without getting the interior wet, and stayed dry all night.

There are two air vent snoots near the top of the tent.In addition, the doors on each end have a rain shield, so they can be opened part way.As this four season tent is a single wall design, these features are essential to keeping the inside of the tent from developing condensation, and they work very well.Noseeum netting will still keep the bugs out while you're letting fresh air in.While we haven't exposed the tent to fierce winds, what wind we encountered has been shed smoothly.

The process of setting up the tent differs from that of typical tents. After laying out the tent, the hoop poles are inserted in their sleeves. Then someone must crawl inside the tent with the front-to-aft frame pole, and place the ends in their anchor points while arcing the pole across the ceiling. When taking down the tent, be careful not to pull on the hoop poles--they are shock-corded, and will separate into their sections if you do so.Instead, pull fabric down on the far end section, and then *push* it along to advance the pole outward--it helps to have someone else guide the free end to keep it from going into the mud or the brush.

If you are used to standard backpacking tents, the interior feels immense.Attachment points allow one to hang clothing items, lights, or a mesh storage area inside the tent.Normal sized occupants can sit up comfortably.

My only quibbles are that I find myself fumbling with the door zippers, as there are just too many. And the stuff sack seems rather flabby. But these are very minor concerns. We're quite satisfied with this well-conceived product.

Set this tent up for the first time, also fist tent set up in at least 5 years, and it was a snap!Very versatile and strong, the dogs even tested the flooring out and even with overly excited tail-wagging the floor held up.Can't wait to set it up somewhere other than my back yard!

Asolo Ptarmigan 3 Person Three Season Tent Review

Asolo Ptarmigan 3 Person Three Season Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I went on a three day 23 mile hiking trip a few weeks ago, and I decided to buy a tent. It is a very crucial part of the camping experience since it was going to be what kept me, my friend, and our equipment hot or cool/and DRY.After researching various outfitter stores, dicks, sportsman's warehouse, wal-mart, target, you name it, I couldn't find a good tent that was comfortable for two people, and fit my budget. They were either too big, too cheaply madeORToo small, very well-built, and too expensive. Im 6ft 175lbs, and the two person tent at the outfitters was more like 3 season one person tent that cost $399.99. So I decided to stop wasting my time and go to Amazon.com. I researched 2 person tents. I ended up choosing this one for several reasons. The fist is the space, It's a 3-person dome that comfortably houses 2 with plenty of room for spreading out and your gear and sitting upright without smacking your head on the ceiling. It even comes with a niftygear hammock you can clip to the ceiling. The second is that the orange rain fly, and the tent itself, are designed like a mountaineering tent. It clips in very easily to all six sides of the dome, and resists rain and wind very well. Search for "expedition tent and see how much they are, this will do the same job against wind in rain, but maybe not in the Himalayas. It is 4-season tent, It is heat seamed and has plenty of zip down windows with bug netting. It also has a nice-sized vestibule in the front for storing your gear and muddy boots if it gets rainy. It comes with lightweightaluminum stakes and a set of 4 aluminum poles. 3 for the tent, and 1 for the vestibule. The tent, the stakes, and the poles weigh about 8.5 pounds, which is good for backpacking. The brand Asolo is most commonly recognized as an Italian hiking boot-maker company, but this tent comes from a company with licensing agreement with Asolo, a Canadian tent maker named Asolo adventure gear. This is not an Italian Asolo product per se, but its quality is reflected in the name, which is surprisingly very good. The tent itself is actually made in China. ButBottom line is; This is a $250 sold on amazon for $189. It is 4-season-expedition-style tent, it is spacious, has cool features, and is DRY. Before you go out and spend $400-$1000 on a north face, MSR, REI, or any of that nonsense, I encourage you to consider this tent, I am extremely pleased with it. My buddy who bought the north face minibus 23, isn't after he saw my tent.

Eureka K-2 XT 8'11-Foot by 7'8 -Foot Three-Person Four-Season Expedition Tent Review

Eureka K-2 XT 8'11-Foot by 7'8 -Foot Three-Person Four-Season Expedition Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This has to be my favorite Eureka 4-season tent. If I only had one tent for everything (yeah, right!), this would be the one. The geodesic dome shape (4 aircraft aluminum poles) is incredibly strong...maybe the strongest of all tent designs. Ripstop fabric with extra waterproof coating will stop rain, snow and ice and the unique guy-line arrangement gives me some flexibilty when anchoring this tent. Like my Alpenlite 2XT, this tent comes with two vestibules and the rear vesti can be accessed from inside the tent via a second/back door. I wasn't sure about all the vents at first but I'm finding that they make the tent a good choice for warmer weather, too! I've posted a bunch of pictures for this tent so take a look. If there is a down side to this tent...it's a bit heavy for a backpack. The fix for this?...I fall back on Boy Scout training and divide the components. I'll carry the tent body and my friend Sharon Sharalike gets the rainfly, poles and stakes. An outstanding tent!!!

About Eureka
Though the exact year is unknown, Eureka's long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, New York, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent & Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.
The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the company's annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.
In 1960, Eureka's new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20
