Coleman Sundome Tent - 7x5' Review

Coleman Sundome Tent - 7x5'

I bought this tent as I needed a smaller one for a yearly group camp out with very limited space. I didn't arrive until 11 PM and was very tired. I managed to get this little tent up for the first time by myself with only a small flashlight in just a few minutes. Just as I was ready to turn in, it started to sprinkle, so I then had to get the rain fly up. Also very easy. It was 2 days later that the rain started in earnest. This wasn't a deluge, but a steady rain that lasted about 5 hours in the day, and resumed at night for several more hours. I stayed very dry and comfy. I've seen a lot of people with cheap tents that are just that, cheap. This one seems pretty well made. The rain fly worked well. I had started out with a tarp underneath to protect the bottom, but had to grab that to cover up the rest of my equipment. I realize the flooring probably won't last forever, but I will make sure I use a groundcloth in the future. It was just as easy to take down, and the storage bag included is large enough. My only negative comment is that it is very small. If 2 people share it, I hope they are very good friends. I used a Coleman twin air bed in it, and seemed to have about 12 inches to spare for some of my gear. But I'm just used to a larger tent also. It does have a pocket on the wall, which was perfect for storing my glasses and small flashlight.

Wind Ridge Instant Tent Review

Wind Ridge Instant Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have to believe the person responsible for the design of the tent must be an avid camper. Plenty of detail is in the structure including operation of the windows, multiple organization compartments, air flow , ect.
I chose the tent based on strict criteria. The tent must be less than 10 pounds to fit on the luggage rack on a motorcycle. The tent must be free standing and easy to erect under minimal light conditions. Another friend purchased the same tent. Both of us conducted pre-test to know how to erect the tents once in the field. My tent did not set up correctly in pre-test. One of the legs wanted to twist out preventing the complete erection (In the field the same situation occurred). The other tent had no erection difficulties in pre-test.
We conducted our field tested at the Thunder in the Mountains motorcycle rally. The area we were in was rock under the about an inch of soil. We were unable to use the stakes that came with the tents since they were not heavy duty enough for the conditions. Likewise, gusting winds up to 30 mph posed a problem with the tent setup. Under heavy winds the tents became airborne since the staking step follows erecting. We were able to use field procedures and secure the tents by tying to large rocks as a solution to staking. There are no instructions with the tent on the use of the rain fly. An experienced camper will be able intuitively attach the rain fly, however, my friend had to ask during pre-test what the purpose of the extra pole not being experienced in the realm of camping. With simple handling the stitching came out of the bottom of the stake bag. It may not seem like any big deal but an unsecured stake loose in the carrying bag could lead to a paint rub when attached to the motorcycle.
Part of my tent did collapse under the high winds. When re-erecting one of the poles split length wise however remained serviceable. The bath tub floor is a pro and con. I did encounter a puncture so I would recommend carrying a roll of duct tape. With the floor as the foot print, under muddy conditions you will be packing up the mess with the tent and soiling the top nylon portion. Both of us were able to pack up the tents and secure them back to the condition they were shipped. While cleaning the tent after the rally I noticed additional poles fracture at joints where the pole connects to the hinge.

Update: Tent went into the field during one of the worst and wet rallies. Pretty much eveything remained dry. The rain fly adequately covers the tent. Seams held tight. additionally cleaning of the tent is easy since it can be free standing. Nothing like cleaning dries horse manuer! I have used the tent for right at a year now and it's preformance has held up. I have change the star rating from 3 to 4. I continue to challege the equipment I take motorcycling and so far this is the best tent at the pricing point. There are now three of us using the tent on rallies. I think I have had the most difficulties. The split/fractures poles are still holding up. When the one I own wears out I plan on buying another one.

Suisse Sport Yosemite Tent Review

Suisse Sport Yosemite Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was our first tent purchase, and we've found it to be a very good entry level tent.I like the inside height that allows me at 5'8" to stand upright, and the room divider allows for a little privacy, but since it's just a curtain, it's also easy to remove and open up the whole tent. With the double doors and three windows, as well as the mesh top under the rain fly, it's got pretty decent ventilation. I wouldn't say this is a four season tent, as the nylon taffeta is a little thin for cool weather camping, but it handles rain well.I did seam seal and waterproof the rain fly and tent before we camped the first time, as I was told by experienced campers that's the best way to ensure dry camping, and I've no complaints. It's not too difficult for me to put up by myself in 20-30 minutes, but with help, we can get it up in 10 minutes easy.I didn't give it a 5 star rating because it has pole sleeves to thread the poles through (clips are better), the stakes it comes with are pathetic, it has little in the way of gear pouches and no power access. You can fit two queen air mattresses in the tent with a little space at the feet for gear, but it's a tight fit, and heavy rain may condense on the inside of the tent from the pressure against the walls. One queen and a twin air mattress work better, reducing sleeping capacity to three adults, but decreasing tension against the walls and increasing storage and standing space in the tent. Finally, the bag it comes in holds all the parts of the tent plus has room for my mallet and extra stakes, and has a carry handle to make transporting it more easily.I highly recommend this tent for a beginner or occasional camper.

Product Description:
Enjoy a little extra privacy when camping with friends with the Suisse Sport Yosemite two-room dome tent. Designed to sleep up to four people, the tent includes a removable divider that splits the tent in two. As a result, you can wall off other campers when changing clothes or sleeping, or you can remove the divider to create a single large room. The Yosemite also includes a double D door for easy entry and exit, along with a full four-point rainfly to keep you dry on moist evenings. And ventilation is always a concern in warm, muggy climates, which is why the tent includes three mesh zippered windows and a mesh ceiling. The tent measures 10 by 6 by 8 feet (W x H x D) and weighs roughly 13.65 pounds.

Chinook Long Star 3-Person Fiberglass Pole Tent Review

Chinook Long Star 3-Person Fiberglass Pole Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this tent because as a first-timer, I was looking for something easy to use and reasonably priced. This tent was extremely easy for one person to set up (though the directions say something about a sleeve which I've still never found...) and at 7' by 7', it is roomy enough for me and my dog to sleep comfortably. (Before I bought it, I used painters' tape to lay out a 7' by 7' square on the floor to make sure my big sleeping bag, gear, dog, and I would all fit inside comfortably).I'm not sure how it will hold up to the test of time- it does feel very light and I question just how sturdy it is, but I had it set up in some significant winds and it did just fine. One of the features I really like is having the front vestibule. It's very handy for putting things that you want out of view, but not necessarily in your tent- hiking boots, dog towels, etc.The vestibule has two openings - one on the front and one on the side, which is kind of hard to see in pictures. The tent comes in a small bag, and is light to carry. It is ideal for 1-2 people.3 would be kind of tough to cram in here though, someone would definitely be touching the walls of the tent- never good for keeping dry.One downer is that if you want to have the windows of the tent open, you have to go around to the outside of the tent to open them on the fly. Also, you'll want to get some decent tent stakes- the ones that come with it aren't really that sturdy and bent the first time I used them.Other than those small inconveniences, I've been very happy with this tent.I'll update once I've had to use it in some weather to let you know how it holds up.I've already waterproofed it with some Camp-Dry, but we'll see how well it does in a rain.

Update:Had some rain this weekend, and it did great- no leaks. I did use three cans of Camp Dry, which may have been overkill, but I was very impressed with how sturdy it felt in the wind and with the fact that even the corners stayed nice and dry.

Coleman SunDome Three to Four-Person 9-Foot by 7-Foot Dome Tent (Blue/White) Review

Coleman SunDome Three to Four-Person 9-Foot by 7-Foot Dome Tent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned this tent for about six years now. It's easy to set up, requiring only about ten minutes from roll out to the final stake, and stands up admirably to wind and rain. This is not a long term or extreme weather tent.It is designed for light use in mild weather.

I'd recommend sealing the seams around the bottom of the entryway, as a driving rain causes some minor leakage in that area, and I noticed a very small wear hole near the right front bottom clasp the last time I set it up.A quick seam-seal over the hole fixed the problem.

The first thing I noticed about the tent when I took it out of the box was that the tub of the tent is sturdy, but not heavy-duty. Extend the life of the floor by laying down a tarp underneath the tent before erecting it. I've done this since day one, and the tub still looks new, without a single rip or wear spot.

Overall a very good tent for the money if you're looking for a good, dependable weekender.

Product Description:
Roomy enough for mom, dad, and a couple of kids, the Coleman Sundome tent sleeps up to four people at a time in complete comfort. The Sundome is outfitted with Coleman's exclusive WeatherTec system, a series of technical features intended to protect you from inclement weather and nasty storms. WeatherTec tents are built with a coated polyester fabric combined with anti-wicking thread, webbing, and zippers, all designed to keep you dry when the rain comes down. The tent's welded waterproof floor and inverted floor seams, meanwhile, dramatically increase the water resistance by hiding the needle holes inside the tent and away from the elements. And in addition to offering fully taped rainfly seams, the included rainfly covers the doors and windows tightly and incorporates easy-to-use Velcro frame attachments. In fact, Coleman is so confident in its WeatherTec system that it exposes its WeatherTec tents to a rain room that simulates nasty downpours, and to a wind machine capable of blowing hurricane force gusts. The results? Even after the tests, Coleman guarantees its WeatherTec tents will keep you dry.
The Sundome's interior is moderately spacious, with a base that measures 9 feet by 7 feet and a center height of 59 inches. In addition, the tent is engineered to keep you cool thanks to the adjustable Variflo ventilation and vented Cool-Air port. About Coleman
More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a "no light, no pay" clause--a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked--and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark.
In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company's current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won't deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.
