(More customer reviews)I recently saw a couple of these shelters on a camping trip and knew I had to have one.After reading some reviews on the square footprint versions and heard they were difficult to set up,I opted for this because I typically have to accomplish this chore alone.I had this shelter up within five minutes all by myself and I'm a small person. The poles are some of the thickest and most heavy duty bungee type fiber-glass poles I've ever seen and it really pays off once the shelter is standing. It feels super sturdy. The poles account for most of the 10 pounds of total weight, but it's not to heavy to carry a good distance.One feature that I thought showed great fore-thought was that there were two sets of eyelets in the bottom strap that the pole feet hook into.This would assure a snug fit over the years as the fabric stetches,otherwise you'd wish you had some way to take up the slack.I haven't used the shelter in a high wind situation yet, but judging by the sturdiness afforded by the triangular shape... I'm sure it would do great as long as you staked it down with the six provided stakes (2 opposing stakes per foot).Plenty of room in the stuff sack elminated what's always my biggest fear, getting it all back in the bag. No problems there. I'd definitely recommend this one to anyone.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this sun shelter for my family's vacation on the Outer Banks of NC.It was over a hundred degrees that week and being outside would have been prohibitive without this shelter.It was a huge success.Although it was easy to put up, we decided to leave it up for the entire week -- including overnight.Even the breezes of the Outer Banks couldn't blow this thing down.Special note: I purchased 17 inch, sturdy anchors to keep it secure.The short, dainty anchors included with the shelter would not have worked in the sand.

I have a full size SUV and there's plenty of room on both sides and front to back -although no room for another vehicle.I purchased the anchors for extra support as I live in South Florida. I will update this review after some wear and tear.

(More customer reviews)To anyone who complained about how difficult it is to set up, Eagle Scout or not, I can only say that you're not doing it the right way. Or you're too weak to do it. Either way, if it's done right, it's no harder than tying boots snugly.

Hint: when you're ready to bow the 1st pole, set the ferruled end on the ground, vertically between your feet while you're standing up and making sure no dirt can fill it (I set it on a sandal instead of right on the dirt). Pull the fabric down systematically, until the ring passes the ferruled end. Grab the fabric and the pole about 2-3 inches from the end with one hand like you're choking it, making sure the fabric does not slide out again. Lift the pole off the ground so you can see what you're doing. With the other hand, slide the pin into the pole. It's that easy. Repeat the process for the 2nd and 3rd poles.

It took me less than 20 minutes from start to finish, all by myself. The key is to plant the ferruled end of the pole securely on the ground while you work the fabric with both of your free hands.

It's the best shade I've ever bought. The other shade that I own, a 10'x10' type, weighs 50 lbs and is quite large in a package, compared to this 11-lbs shade that fits in a small nylon sack. The 2008 model comes with heavy-duty poles which is an improvement to the smaller diameter poles of the earlier model. There is no way these poles will split, unlike the earlier version, as reported by some.

(More customer reviews)I purchased the product with the intent (no pun intended) to use it as a shade shelter for camping and the beach.Set up is somewhat complicted due to the use of a sleeve system instead of a corded hook system used in similar tents/shelters.It was apparent early on that the glue holding the ferrules on to the ends of the fiberglass rods was not up to snuff as about a third of them pulled off and this got worse the ssecond time i set it up.I set it up in the back yard first and then a second time on the beach.Unfortuantely the top is not vented in any way so even a minimal wind load results in unacceptable deformation of the entire top/fiberglass rod assembly.This resulted in the need to return.I would recommend it only for minimal to zero wind conditions and even at that one would need to secure all the ferrules with glue or duct tape.

SO WE TRIED TO SET UP ON MY DECK AND THE NONE CORDED POLES KEPT ON FALLING AND DOING A LOT OF DAMAGE. AFTER A HOUR OF THE POLES FALLING I CALLED THE COMPANY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE RIGHT AWAY SAID I MUST OF USED THE CANOPY AND JUST TRYING TO RETURN IT NOW. I TOLD THEM TO SEND A CALL TAG TO RETURN AND THEY JUST HUNG UP ON ME. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. BEWARE.
